Eleven area non-profit organizations will share nearly $30,000 in grants from Tipmont REMC’s Operation Round Up and EnviroWatts programs.
Operation Round Up
In October 2016, nine Operation Round Up applications were approved for a total of $9,904.44. The following grants were awarded:
- Battle Ground Elementary Student Teacher Parent Staff Organization ($250.00) Movies for Community Movie Night
- Blue Star Hoosier Mothers, Indiana Chapter #3, of the Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc. ($1,046.48) Care package items for deployed Montgomery County residents
- First Books for Kids/Tippecanoe County Extension Homemakers ($3,000) Books for the Head Start students Habitat for Humanity of Lafayette, Inc. ($705.76) Stepladders for housing construction
- Hope Springs Safe House ($1,628.46) Washer and dryer for residence
- Montgomery County Free Clinic ($1,340.74) Specialized equipment for treatment clinic
- North Montgomery High School Robotics Club with Friends of the Carnegie Museum of Montgomery County Inc. ($683) Communication control and the electronic sets for robot construction and competition
- Through the Gate Inc. ($1,250.00) Apple Air computer and case for residential treatment facility.
“Improving our patients' access to care and quality of care is our mission,” said Montgomery County Free Clinic nurse practitioner Kay Nannet.
“The grant will allow us to purchase a hyfecator, which removes benign and potentially malignant skin lesions. This will help our patients save time since we won’t have to refer to a dermatologist or wait until we can borrow the equipment.”
EnviroWatts
In October 2016, the EnviroWatts board approved two grants totaling $20,000.
- NICHES Land Trust ($10,000) Land along the south side of its Shawnee Bottoms property in Northwest Fountain County for the purpose of land conservation and restoration efforts
- Tree Lafayette ($10,000) Trees for 2017 Arbor Day tree planting event
“About 200 volunteers turn out each spring to plant up to 80 trees in a single morning during our annual Arbor Day planting project,” said Greg Shaner, Chairman, Tree Committee with Tree Lafayette. “The Tipmont EnviroWatts program has been a longtime supporter of our efforts, and we are grateful for this sustained support.”
Operation Round Up and EnviroWatts grants are made to qualifying 501(c)3 groups from counties served by Tipmont. Grant funds are distributed quarterly.
